About Indiana Phone Directory

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor reports that the 812 area code will run out of numbers by 2014. Either a split or overlay is planned (this would be Indiana’s first overlay) but no indication of when or what the new area code will be has been given. The 317 area code is expected to be exhausted of numbers in 2017, while 765 will run out of numbers by 2018. The northern area codes will not run out of numbers until after 2030. Following is an area code directory for Indiana:

Northern Indiana

219: northwest part of the state: Gary, Hammond, Merrillville, Valparaiso and Michigan City

574: north-central Indiana: South Bend, North Judson and Warsaw

260: northeast section of Indiana: Fort Wayne and Angola

The 219 area code covered all of northern Indiana until January 2002. At this time, the 219 area code was split into three sections due to massive population and cell phone number growth in the area. A random drawing was held, and results allowed the northwestern portion of the state to keep 219 as its area code.

Central Indiana

765: central part of the state, excludes the Indianapolis Metro area

317: Metro Indianapolis area, including: Boone County, Hancock County, Hamilton County, Hendricks County, Johnson County, Madison County, Morgan County and Shelby County

Until 1948, when 219 was implemented, area code 317 covered all of Northern and Central Indiana. 317 was used throughout Central Indiana until 1997, when great increases in assigned phone numbers caused the implementation of area code 765.

Southern Indiana

812: includes Evansville, Vincennes, Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus, Madison and Clarksville

Reverse Phone Number Lookup in Indiana

Finding phone numbers online is easy, depending on what type of phone numbers are being researched. Landline reverse phone numbers are the easiest, with reverse cell phone numbers coming in second and unlisted reverse cell phone number lookups being the most difficult. For any phone number, you can enter it into one of the popular free search engines. If that does not yield results, then try an online phone directory. Lastly, a paid reverse phone number lookup website might be the best way to find ownership information and unlisted phone numbers.
